Ikiliikkuja Programme Activities

Ikiliikkuja programme is part of the national *Active programme entity (Liikkuvat-kokonaisuus) coordinated by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture.

Ikiliikkuja programme provides support and good practices for promoting an active lifestyle among adults aged 65 and over.

The number of pensioners is growing, and there are now more of them than children and young people. Did you know that a large proportion of pensioners do not get enough exercise for their health? Our goal is for everyone over the age of 65 to find a suitable way to exercise, whether it be walking to the shops, working out at the gym, or playing soccer. This can be achieved through local cooperation between different actors. It requires effective structures and conditions, as well as sufficient expertise. In addition, new actors are needed to reach the target group and diversify the range of physical activities on offer.

Each year, the Age Institute organizes Ikiliikkuja Week in collaboration with municipalities, wellbeing services counties, organisations, companies, and Active Pharmacy (Liikkujan Apteekki) partners. This themed week promotes physical activity by offering a wide range of opportunities for older adults to be active, as well as information and practical tips for incorporating more movement into everyday life.
